Each year Broadcast Music, Inc. organizes the BMI Awards to honor songwriters and publishers in various music genres. In 2019, Sting received the accolade for writing the most played song EVER.  Every Breath You Take, performed by Sting and The Police, achieved the historic milestone by surpassing You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling’ in radio plays. The iconic1964 hit, performed by The Righteous Brothers and written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Well, held the distinction for 22 years..

Prior to Sting’s taking the stage to accept the award, Jose’ Feliciano and Jelena Krstic entertained attendees with a cover of the classic song. Watch.

You may be wondering what this has to do with ballroom dancing. I’ll tell you. The first thing that popped into my head when I watched Sting and his wife try to contain their painfully awkward reactions to this terrible rendition of a rock ‘n roll masterpiece was Oh. My. Gosh… is that how the judges look when they watch me dance?  

And THAT is what sealed my decision to have the much needed hip replacement surgery I’ve been putting off for as long as I’ve been dancing.
