Let the countdown begin!

Exactly one month from today I will make my competitive ballroom dance debut. The good news is January is a long month so I get an extra day to practice. The bad news is I still haven’t figured out how to apply false eyelashes… or eyeshadow. I’ve said yes to the dress (two actually), I’ve ordered the fishnets and I possess the requisite, albeit previously untapped, proficiency for dancing in two and a half inch heels, but false eyelashes and eyeshadow… not so much.

I’ve watched videos. I’ve even had a consultation with a professional make-up artist, but no matter what I do, I look like a drag queen. I know, I know. Applying layer upon layer of excessive make-up is a vital technique used not only to highlight a dancer’s facial features, but also to represent the character of the dance and yet I can’t help feeling like a caricature in it. Call me crazy, but I think it would be easier to wear a mask. You know, something along the lines of what Robin Williams sported in Mrs. Doubtfire only prettier.

Anyway, if you happen to be passing through Baltimore on February 5, stop by the BWI Airport Marriott to say HELLLLLOOO!!!
