The One About Competing and Hurt Feelings

Dear Dance Diva,

Part of what I enjoy about competing is the fellowship with other dancers, who have become my friends. I always make a point to go to the ballroom to watch them dance, to encourage and to cheer for them. The problem is, my studio-mates don’t do the same thing for me and it really hurts my feelings. A bunch of us – students and instructors -recently attended a ballroom dance competition in Virginia where I danced my personal best, but no one from my studio was there

The One About What to Do When You’re Sick

Dear Dance Diva,

I recently caught a bug. My symptoms were fever, sore throat, cough, runny nose and low energy so I had a COVID test and stayed away from the dance studio while I waited for my results. It came back negative. My fever is gone and my energy is back, but I still have a sore throat, runny nose and cough. I’m sure this is just a common cold and I really want to go back to the studio for some group classes, but I’m not sure it’s a good idea. I’m wondering what

The Other One About the Bad Breath

Dear Dance Diva,
This is awkward so I’ll get straight to the point. My pro-am partner has bad breath. It’s really bad. I’ve been working with him for about six months and he’s a good instructor, but I’m thinking about finding another pro because I don’t know how to handle this without embarrassing him (and me). At first I thought I could just grin and bear it. I tried mouth breathing, but I get so parched that I find myself holding my breath during my

The One About the Painful Bunions

Dear Dance Diva,

I think I may have bunions or possibly osteo-arthritis in the great toe joints on both of my feet. They are chronically stiff and swollen which makes dancing incredibly painful. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this problem or at least cope with it? Quitting dancing is not an option!

Painful Peds

Dear Painful Peds,

I feel your pain. First off, make sure to invest in a good pair of proper fitting dance shoes and wear toe spacers between your great toe and second toe when

The One About the Guy Dating His Co-Worker

Dear Dance Diva,

I had a crush on a female coworker for around two years, but when it comes to women I’m shy and lack confidence. I tried, but couldn’t get the nerve to ask her out so I started taking dance lessons in order to impress her at our company holiday party. It worked. We danced a few times at the party, one thing led to another, I asked her out and we’ve been dating for the last six weeks. We both really enjoy dancing and she started taking lessons at the same studio
